Welcome to the forum cwdoherty,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Chris,

I'd expected the resident experts to be along before now!

Here's the JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System - Workshop Manual) section on removal and refitting the rear muffler and tailpipe:

JTIS - X Type Rear Muffler & Tailpipe.pdf

Here is the equivalent for the front muffler:

JTIS - X Type Front Muffler.pdf

As a newbie, you may not be able to download these PDF's from the forum. Here are links to the same PDF's on my MediaFire account which has no download restrictions:

REAR:

FRONT:

Default fixed!

i ended up cutting off the right (passenger) side of the Y pipe and welding on a 4 inch splice, which allowed enough room to get it up in there. I then just clamped the cut off piece onto the splice and attached the mufflers.

Thanks for posting the outcome. I've added RESOLVED to your thread title to help anyone looking for the answer to this issue in future.

I was amazed to see the JTIS removal procedure involved cutting the pipe!
