OK here goes ... I'm popping my cherry right off the bat with a question!

I own a 2004 X Type 3.0 with about 65K miles. The car is great but all of a sudden the windows fog up terribly. After some research here and other sites like this, I learned the pollen filter could be the culprit. While in there is also learned the fresh air blend door just behind the filter could be sticking.

Well, I took everything apart and got the filter out. Noted the fresh air door was closed. I pushed it up with a long screwdriver and it stayed open. Here's the kicker, when I start the car the door closes. I can push it open but as soon as the car is shut down and restarted the door closes.

I understand fresh air is needed to defog and am perplexed. The recirculate switch is off and the defrosters are on full blast. Air is coming out of the defroster vent, but no defogging. If I open a window the windows do clear up, pretty much confirming the lack of fresh air is the culprit. As a side note the A/C compressor is cycling, so I think I'm good there.

Could my problem be the blend door actuator? If so, I don't understand why the door closes but won't open???

Anyway, I thank all in advance for any input/suggestions.

I would most certainly say it was the air blend door , maybe the drive is only picking up the door to close it and not getting enough grip to re-open it ? I have just sorted mine out but it wouldn't move either way , so stayed where I put it (open) .

Rob R, the air blend door is staying in the recirculation mode. It slips on the shaft. There is a DIY fix. I have a PDF file for the fix. Hope it's attached.

It's not bad to do. A couple screws are hard to get at. Use an allen key instead of a torx driver and you'll be fine.

 

Well, I got everything apart. glued the shaft and put it all back together. Glue had plenty of time to dry as it took me about half an hour to get the actuators screwed back in. Went to try it and it's not working. The glue must not have held.

The TSB I was working from said to use Super Glue gel. I did not have any and used some plastic epoxy. Guess I'll have to give it another shot when I get some time with the Super Glue.

 

I have finally found a solution to correct TSB XT412-02 permanently. This TSB is specifically for mechanical blend door failures whereby the blend door interlock has become stripped out from the actuator shaft.

Note, the super glue noted in step 16 will not hold. I have also confirmed that plastic weld epoxy will not hold either without added reinforcement.

Please follow the TSB attached but:

skip step 8 (needless step)
skip step 10 (you can work around this stepper without removal and you run the risk of damaging)
step 13 - is important. In order to time this correctly you might have to plug the connector in half-way and time the position by pulling the connection from the actuator
replace step 16 with the following (read completely and ensure you have all materials before beginning):
16a Drill an access hole using a Dremel attached to a 225-01 Flex Shaft Attachment with a Dremel 194 High-Speed Cutter according to picture to reveal actuator interlock. Be sure not to drill through the cream colored plastic actuator interlock
16b Apply Devcon Plastic Welder on actuator shaft and within Actuator interlock (you have 5min to complete this step before glue dries)
Complete step 17 and 18 in TSB
Step 18a: with a 1/16" drill bit and the 225-01 attachment, measure off 13mm of drilling depth on the drill bit by wrapping electrical tape around the bit (note, you do not want to drill completely through the actuator interlock)
Step 18b: drill a nice clean 1/16" by 13mm hole through actuator interlock and actuator shaft
Step 18c: insert 1/16" fiberglass rod (rod can be purchased here: )
Step 18d: let dry for 24hrs
Step 18e: clip remains that are protruding from actuator interlock and use Dremel 225-01 and Dremel 194 to file remain rod smooth to actuator interlock so that rod will not impede actuator interlock rotation (see attached picture again and note black dot which is the rod)
Step 18f: follow remaining steps of TSB to put car back together

Sorry to be a bit late with this, but many blend door problems can be sorted with this Jaguar calibration routine:

Manual Reset

• Finally select Defrost

This routine also occurs automatically two minutes after after every 85th ignition switch-off and after reconnecting the battery.

 

If you press the defrost/ foot vent button on the right side without the heater on it will open the vents.. works for me, i do that as soon as i turn on the car and have never had fog up issue
