Debs, welcome to the site. Sit back, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the posts.
As for the timing belt/timing chain question, all the options for your car (2.5L and 3.0L petrol engines and the 2.0L diesel) use a timing chain. So, replacement of this component is not needed unless the engine is pushed to its limits or has significant mileage (ie, over 300,000 KM). So, as long as you are good to the vehicle, it will be good to you.

Transmission
Ok the response about the jaguar Xtype using a timing chain does put my mind at rest. However though is there a big issue about the transmission? I have a 2003 Xtype that i just bought and its got 92K miles on it. Everything seems to be running great right now but my worries are always the timing and transmission on any car. Any advice?

Don't buy used cars?
Seriously though, did you have the car checked out before you bought it? If so, get in and drive it and enjoy it. Life is to short to worry about something that may or may not happen, isn't it? If you've got an '03 that had any of the original tranny difficulties it may have already been replaced. Your dealer can check for you. If not, and if it's gone this long, it may be fine.
