Default High Performance Headlight Bulbs...Are They??

Recently replaced the four front bulbs with 'Halfords' Super Brilliance bulbs - special offer (buy 1 - get 1 free) @£14.95 each.

Halfords claim these bulbs use "Xenon gas technology for up to 50% more light and greater safety"

I'm not altogether convincedthey live up to these claims - any 'bulb' experts out there??

Oh, and BTW - they're a bitch to fit!

Regards,

Fitted them in mine and they arent much better than the poor std lights.
PS Halfrauds could have fitted them for you for about £6.
HID is the way forward for us.

No one I have heard of with HID kits have said a bad word about them.
There are loads of sellers on ebay and you can get kits for <£50.
Mydepots.com do a kit and they have an ebay shop.
Pity theirshipping is highervia ebaybut kits still work out less than from the mydepots.com website...but thats just nit picking.

HID is the way to go. Quite a few of us here have gone that route. I know I'll never go back to standard halogens again.

Wish I'd priced HID's up b4 splashing out on the bulbs now...

See we Englishare good at this... spend all night trying to figure out how to get your new toy to work(DVD Player / TV / Microwave Oven etc, etc)and then when you're pressed every conceivable button, flicked every switch and all else has failed...spend the rest of the night reading the bloody instructions!

Perhaps a word of caution re. uprating wattage of the bulbs...

Some years ago myself and a friend uprated the standard headlight bulbs in our Ford Granada's (circa 1985) and within a few weeks we experienced damage to the main beam / dip switch. Closer examination revealed theextra resistance caused by uprating the wattage had burnt out the terminals within the switch mechanism and left it's mark on the wiring where it enters the switch too. We both had to replace the damaged component (costly) and revert to correct wattage bulbsto preventthe damage from reocurring. I don't know whether we should have uprated something else too e.g. relays?
