Default How to bleed the coolant system

I have seen this asked or referred to in many post, so I figured I would write up an easy how-to.

I know our systems are self bleeding but if your fans are running more after a coolant drain or replacing the thermostat, water pump, etc this is a quick and easy troubleshooting step to get out of the way.

These steps come from JTIS as well as the screenshots.

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Fill coolant to max mark on expansion tank.

3. Install the expansion tank cap.

4. Start and Run the engine at 2000 rpm until the cooling fans come on.

5. Turn car off and allow to cool for two minutes.

6. Loosely install a pipe clamp to the heater inlet hose.

7. Loosely install a pipe clamp to the heater return hose.

8. Start and Run engine at 2000 rpm.

9. With the engine running at 2000 rpm fully clamp the heater outlet hose and then fully clamp the heater inlet hose.

10. Continue to run the engine for a further two minutes.

11. Turn engine off and remove the clamps.

12. Allow engine to cool. Fit engine cover back and top off coolant.
