Default How do the side repeaters come off?

My x-type is missing one of the side repeaters (on the wing by the front door) and I saw a nice set with clear 'glass' so I ordered those. I thought it better to ask here first before I damage the light causing me to have to replace the entire unit: How does the top come off? Do these things just click on and off or do they slide in one direction?

I'm hoping that these after-market repeaters are built the same way as the original ones, so I'd only need the use the part on the outside.

I.saw that one, but it appears to be about repeaters in or near the rear bumper. The ones I ordered are for.the sides near the front.

(Yeah, the door isn't the best looking one either. That's next on the list of chores. It's one of the reasons for the low price on the car.)

They remove the same way, they slide against the spring clip and then come out.

Thank you Dell Gailey.
Now I'm only hoping that the ones I ordered are the same (apart from their outer appearance).

Should do. I had a clear one in my trunk when I bought my car. Unfortunately, not being careful, I took out the spare to fix a rattle (jack loose & not tightened up) & wasn't watching where I placed the tire & smashed the clear lens. I did look @ it & it looked exactly like the Amber lens for fitment just clear.

Cheers for that Dell Galley !!!
Simply just seeing how they (and the hole.behind them) are shaped is the best explanation I could get. It saves me from not knowing what I'm doing because of not seeing parts of it. It also shows me that the one that I thought was missing its exterior parts actually still has parts of that left (and there's another hole behind that). This really helps me a lot.

It's the way it looks now (like in the picture above) that threw me off. I need to take a closer look at that.

This should be obvious, but are you aware that the photo with the unit mounted to the fender shows it mounted backwards? The vertical end is to be at the door opening and the curved end faces the front of the car.

Yeah, I noticed that when I reinstalled. The driver's side was correct, but the passenger (LHD) was backwards.

It also had an LED bulb that 18 of the 20 LEDs were dead (odd that!), prompting my change initially to what I thought would be all LED's. The fronts had been changed already. Now all (repeaters, sides front and rear) are new LEDs to match interior change over and strip lighting added as well as the trunk and hood. The only thing I ran into was the LED's I bought (20 smd, T10's) were just barely larger than the round apparature hole in the lens. I just very carefully trimmed the round hole (careful of not nearing the "tab" hole inserts with a sharp blade just enough to allow the bulb to slide in the hole of the plastic housing.

The LEDs are brighter than the original w5's. Next after installing new after market front running lights and a rear trunk multi-function light strip, and cutting and lighting the Jaguar lettering on the rear plinth. I'm going to change all the turn, park, brake bulbs to LED as well.

Don't bother with the turn signal bulbs...you'll need resistors, which kind of defeats the purpose of the LEDs in the first place.

I have the clear covers all the way around, chrome surround on the repeaters, and the only bulbs I didn't swap for LEDs were the turn signals. (they'll "fast flash" inside, but they'll usually work correctly on the outside...but you won't know if one fails!)

With the clear covers it looks better to have the original type of bulbs anyway (in my humble opinion) and with the summed up amount of time that these lights will be on and the strength of the bulbs you won't need to worry about a noticable difference in mpg. It's the stronger lights that you use constantly for.longer periods of time (headlight etc.) that make a measurable difference when it comes to that. LED's would last longer, but I personally like the repeaters with the oldfashioned bulbs a lot better with the clear covers.

This is a comparison of the original amber and the clear units - much better! Oh...and the change of wheels helps a bit too! Since these photos were taken the amber units in the bumper have also been changed to clear - it completely cleans up the side view - and in both units I use amber bulbs.
This is a Canadian-market car.

I agree. You made some nice improvements this way. My side repeaters already aren't amber. They're greyish but the new ones are more like clear glass with chrome behind it. I'll try to also post before and after pics when they arrive, which should be somewhere this week. This is how.it looks now on the side without damage:

I'll try and make clearer pictures when I put the new ones on.

I cancelled the order for the glass look repeaters, because it simply it took too long and the company still hadn't even sent them. Instead I put in an order for the original type to be fitted next week by a jaguar garage. I was there anyway to have them do a quick inspection of my jag and that resulted in an appointment for tuesday next week to get a few parts replaced, so it seemed most convenient to add the repeater to that list.

One little disclaimer though: The fact that we visited this dealer in particular and posted the picture here does not automatically mean that we would recommend the place.

But we finally do have matching repeaters on either side, and we got some filters replaced (oil, fuel, air and pollen filter). They also performed a few minor fixes and replaced a ball joint (steering) on the right side, but we have to take the cat to another place to get it properly aligned.

This is sort of weird. I replaced all the side/repeater marker lights with LED's (they all worked with 5w regular bulbs). Drove it until dark a few days ago and when I switched on the headlight switch. A "New" icon was lit up on the dash. I was going what the hell is it now?

Funny what it turned out to be, although it has never been illuminated before. It's an icon saying the side markers are on. Weird it has never worked before.

That icon is for the corner markers and the highlights in the inner headlight housings. If you have a bulb out anywhere it doesn't light.

More or less a way to let you know your courtesy lights are on.
