how do you remove your front defrost vents?

How do you take out your defrost vents by the windshield, since when ever I hit a bump they are making a annoying creaking noise? So I'm going to try to put some soft plastic peice between the vent and the dashboard.

Sorry one last question, I went out and tried to take them out and I couldn't get the plug out. Is there any suggestions? I also have a 07 MY too, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

1. open door
2. take off side dashboard cover
3. insert an "L" shaped tool and push the plug from inside

I think I used smth like this:
