I have a 2002 x-type. The ignition lock cylinder needs replaced due to worn tumblers and keys. Jaguar wants $856.00 for cylinder and keys. Are there any Ford cylinder and keys that would work?

 

On an additional note, I have seen many aftermarket cylinder and keys without remotes for $150 and up. I don't need a remote,my question is after installing the cylinder, will the car start with the new key, or do those have tone programmed by Jaguar? The nearest dealer is 150 miles away. If those will work without programming that would be great.

 

Are you sure its the cylinder and not your keys?

 

Spray a little wd 40 or some 3 In 1 oil inside the cylinder. That usually helps with a sticky cylinder.

 

Tried that wd-40, didn't work. Key is badly worn, my mechanic suggested cylinder replacement soon, but he doesn't do Jaguar locks

 

have you tried a locksmith? a decent locksmith should be able to replace the tibbe discs in the ignition lock and make up a new key. saves having to replace the door and boot locks if they are still good.

 

My guess is the key tibb Is worn out. Take a picture of your key close up and post it here. I may be able to read your code and get a key cut for cheap.

From the looks of it your key is shot. I need a few of the key from the side. I need to see the lifts in the key. If you take the key to a ford dealer that cuts keys he can read and cut the tibb. You can just replace the tibb not the whole key.

 

 

If the Ford dealer cuts it, will I still need to go to Jaguar and have it programmed?

 

If you just use the tibb it will not need to be. Get one cut and see if the key slides into the lock easy and turns easy. If it does I will show you how to replace just the tibb.

Ford dealer didn't have a tibb key. The cylinder is badly worn, have to turn the key a long ways before it starts. The valet key won't turn in it, just in the door
