Default Ignition Switch/Key Won't Turn

HELP.... I have an '03 X-Type. Suddenly when I try to turn the key to start the car the key will only turn slightly, not even as far ACC. I have to keep turning the key off then towards start repeatedly. Sometimes it will turn by the third time and sometimes it takes as long as 10 to 15 minutes to get the key to finally turn to start the engine. Is this a common issue? Is there something I can do to fix it myself? Should I be worried about the key eventually not turning at all? THANK YOU!!

Is your key worn down at all? It seems to me like your key got so worn down that the car doesn't recognize that the key in the ignition is the same key to start the car. I have noticed that my key is very worn down and was actually worried about a problem like this happening with a old worn down key. The jaguar ignition is not to kind on keeping keys in perfect condition either. It's like sandpaper in there :/

I had a similar issue where the key would turn somewhat, but not into start position. It turns out the steering wheel was locked. I jiggled the steering column while pushing the key forward, and it started as soon as the steering wheel came unlocked. Your issue could be a worn key, or worn tumblers in the ignition chamber, but checking the steering column is worth a try.

Replace the worn key and the lock barrel. Not just the key. It eventually will not turn and have to be drilled out to replace. Yes its common as in ive done a handfull. Dont wait its gets more expensive and you will be stuck somewhere when you least need it to happen. Like when someone is chasing you with a chainsaw
