Default interesting problem-ideas?

while driving my good running 02 2.5 xtype, I stopped at a red light went to start again and nothing. The motor would rev but very little movement, 10 mph after 1000 feet. Reverse acted the same as drive. I shut the car off and restarted it but the same problem. Seems like a transmission issue, but not sure. Scanner said P1000. The last time I cleared the codes was because of a 02 sensor problem 2 weeks ago. Ideas - suggestions - where to go from here?

Have you checked the trans fluid level? When was the last time it was changed? Sounds like a trans issue to me.....Good Luck.....Mike

The transmission was rebuilt about 30000 miles ago and since has a small drip so I've kept an eye on the level. The fluid is a nice red and never need more then 4oz. at the 3000-4000 service. Just so strange major failure could occur without warning or at least setting a code.

Sounding like low fluid level. If the pump can not generate sufficient pressure, it cannot engage the gears/torque converter. This will leave you in a neutral sort of state.

It is possible that the torque converter is toast. But, you would be one of the first to have that part fail.

Thermo, I think you might but right. I'll bet it's an oil pressure problem, plugged pickup, bad pump, something like that. It certainly had oil dripping from the check plug when I checked. I'll be getting into it in a few days I'll let you know what I find. Thanks all for the input. Really helps to kick some ideas around.
