Most common problem 02 oxygen sensor , get your OBD2 codes read P1647/1646 is sensors . Its ok to keep running your car BUT!! get it fixed soon as this problem eventuallly affects fuel consumption & exhaust emissions. ( however it may not be sensors ( 02 ) . this is why it is important to get codes read.

I would go to Auto Zone and have them hook up their OBDII reader to get you the code(s) - free service then post them on here and we'll give you a hand.

I will tell you failing batteries have a tendency to make these cars act weird. I would have them also load test your battery as well - also free.

Juanita, those codes are for a vacuum leak. This can be caused by a few things. From dealing with the car, there are 3 things that I would look at first since these seem to correct a majority of the problems like you are seeing.

1) intake to brake booster line. If you look at the top of the engine, you will see a vacuum line about the diameter of a pencil coming out the top of the motor and running over to the brake booster (right in front of the driver on the firewall, the big black can there). If you look in the middle of that line, you will see what some refer to as a miniature football. Is that cracked or is the plastic starting to flake off when you rub it. If so, replace that part as it is possible that it is leaking and leading to your codes.

2) PCV to intake hose. You will need to remove the cover off of the engine, but if you look behind the box that says "JAGUAR" in the front center of the engine bay (to the right side of the box as you are facing the engine bay), you will see a large hose about the diameter of your thumb running straight back. One end has a gray plastic piece that is attached to the engine and the other end runs to a port on the side of the silver intake. If you run your finger on the backside of the hose where it bends and goes over a bracket, is the hose split (worst case, you can pull off one end of the hose and look at it that way too, just make sure to reconnect the hose). If you have a smooth hose, you should probably replace it anyways as it is a known failure item and if it hasn't failed yet, it can at any time. The redesigned hose has ribs to it and has a definite texture to it.

3) IMT Valve o-rings. If you walk over to the passenger front wheel of your car and look at the engine, you will see two black circles (IMT Valves) about 4" in diameter on the side of the silver intake. Using an old paper towel tube or wrapping paper tube, put one end of the tube close to your ear as you pass the other end at the seam where the IMT valves meet the intake. You need to do this with the engine running. If you can hear a sucking sound as you pass the tube near a spot on the IMT valves, then you have an o-ring that has failed on you. Your local dealership has new o-rings and you can install them yourself (takes about 10 minutes and requires an 8mm socket) or I am sure the dealership would do it for you.

After that, you would need to clean your MAF sensor. Not sure of your mechanical ability. But, this is something that is very easy to do and with a little bit of instruction, I am confident that you can do it. If this is something you want to try, let us know.
