Jerky engine at low revs - think I found the problem
Hi guys
I am sharing this in case someone has the same problem with their X type that I've been trying to solve for 2 years and literally spent thousands of rands on. However, I think I found the problem. I also posted on the group about this (throttle body wiring).
Since I've had my car, the engine has had a subtle (sometimes not so subtle) jerk at low revs under strain, just before the transmission kicked down. I had coil packs replaced, a cam sensor, a lambda sensor, spark plugs, full major service. Still the problem persisted.
I noticed a perished plug to the throttle body the other day when I had one on the lamps changed. I pulled it out and plugged it back in. Problem gone! The engine is super smooth and no jerking at all. However, the plug seems to pull out and once it came out completely. The red warning lamp on the dash that indicates a drivetrain failure came on and the car lost all power. I plugged it back in and the car was fine. So this is a fix I am still working on, but at least now I know what the problem is that we have been trying to sort out for 2 years. Hope this helps someone else with the same issue.
