ABS module and pump interchangeable across model years?
It seems that the pump side of my ABS module has a valve stuck open. Pedal goes nearly to the floor before I get some partial braking power, no fluid leaks anywhere, no loss of fluid no matter how many times I pump the brake pedal. I probably need to replace the ABS pump.
Are the ABS modules for various years largely interchangeable? My car is a 2004 X-Type 3.0 with DSC. As far as I could determine from checking the part numbers and VIN ranges on SNG Barratt's web site, all of the 2.5 and 3.0 cars with DSC use the same part prior to VIN D55321. After that, I'm seeing a number of different part numbers.
Since my 2004 model has VIN D4400, I'm going to guess that all of the 2004 and earlier US-spec, DSC cars use the same part.
In contrast, eBay listings for used modules claim compatibility throughout the 2002-2008 model range. What's the truth here? What do I need to look for in a used module? Keep in mind that I'm really just after a replacement pump assembly.

No
Last time i did any brake work was over the summer, when I replaced a rear caliper due to a sticking parking brake actuator lever. Fluid was completely flushed then, and still looks as clear as white wine today.
Current symptoms started three weeks ago during a winter storm. I stabbed the brake pedal to see how slick it was out there, and my foot went nearly to the floor before I had any braking action. In the last half-inch of pedal travel, I had workable, though diminished, brake power.
I pumped the pedal a number of times - dozens actually - and the brake fluid level light never came on. Pedal action was the same, with my foot nearly to the floor.
Once we had a dry day, I did the same brake pedal pumping test and found no leaks anywhere in the system. Fluid level remains full, and the fluid still looks new and clean. We have also determined that there is only braking action in one diagonally -opposed pair of calipers.
All of this points back to a sticking valve in the ABS pump assembly. So my question remains: which modules are compatible?

Hi James- Wondering the same thing on module interchange/compatibility. Having problems with our '02 2.5 auto base model. Chrysler dealer we got it from services it, head mech and I are friends. Multiple tests on wheel sensors, replaced 1. Just to track that down- 3 new ones ordered were out of spec in pkg., sent back.Still intermittent ABS,DSC,cruise, and speedo Last go round was to test and possibly replace ABS control module which showed partial failure. Found 2 totaled cars another friend got for cheap a few years ago (years unknown, also it's *** deep snow & cold AF here, had to plow to and plow out both cars), got to take both modules for test/install. Our car has 12 solenoids in ABS module, the 2 I found have 8. Didn't know till mech took ours apart for diagnosis. He told me the other 4 in ours are for steering yaw input. Can't find info anywhere online as to if this is a 1st year only unit or what the model /year/trans split may be. No one seems to stock or know what the hell a 12 solenoid unit is. To make it more confusing, I've believe I've seen 4 solenoid modules listed for these cars.Spent hours online trying to figure this out. I know this doesn't help you directly, but I have 2 modules sitting here, and a crippled "Coventry Kitty" as my wife calls it. I refer to it as the "Limey Lowrider" given it's ground clearance and our snow depths here.
Years, VINs and DSC option would be really important to know for your issue. It sounds like yours is more likely in the electronics side of the ABS module, while I'm thinking mine is more likely a valve.
I'm also wondering about your reluctor rings. Have you inspected them? I know I have two in the back that are giving me intermittent problems. When both malfunction at the same time, that would kill off the speedo (and odo and cruise control). It sure sounds like you're dealing with that. I'd check it out first before assuming that you need a new ABS module.

Dell, you have referenced a part number for a later VIN range than my car. Please describe your experience with this part in an earlier vehicle than it was designed for.
So, flailing away in the darkness here- this is the Bosch PN for the ABS module on our car- 0 265 950 029. And yes, one of the tone/reluctor rings on ours has been replaced, $$$, don't remember if it was front or rear.. As before, got free access to 2 totaled cars. Here's our VIN if it helps- SAJEA51D62XC39004. Don't know about the donor cars VIN, nor if DSC equipped or not, obviously they're not the correct modules and 50 mi. S of here, see above post, it's winter in NW Minnesota. And still have intermittent ABS/DSC, sometimes with speedo, sometimes not. When cruise appears to function, sometimes if I try to engage it, it will kill the speedo, ABS/DSC, one or both, never know which. Any info would help, thank you ! Mike

Dell- Thanks, but not an option. Jag is the only vehicle that my wife can get in & out of for post knee replacement therapy. Work van & Jeep are too tall for her. Still curious as to why the parts cars have 8 solenoids and ours has 12, as before- year/model/options/trans differences, or what ? Wouldn't surprise me to have an oddball as I have 2 1980's 4 cyl. Cherokees- everything else around here has the inline six.
