Smile Key Fob

I need to replace the battery in one of my key fobs. The directions are simple and I understand them and it is a simple job. However when I go to do them I cannot get the inner cover off. There is a detente where a screwdriver goes but that cover is on there and tight, I started to widen the inner cover detente so I stopped, any suggestions? Thanks.

I found it very hard to get off too. I just worked around the edge with a small screw driver till it poped.

Sure it's not easy to open, you just have to keep trying, the trick to not get that intent widen is find the screw driver that thick just fit the width of the slot, but not too wide, insert the tip in the slot squarely and firmly twist the tip to pry two piece apart.

I just did this actually (for the first time.... no less) and also found it difficult to split the inner pieces as you describe. I found that..... trying to think how to describe this.....

if you're holding the fob in your hand with the "open" end facing you....
I used a small screwdriver in the indent to begin separating the pieces. Simply prying harder looked like it was going to deform the plastic. So as separation began, I slid a thumbnail into the seam to the left of the indent.... then worked the screwdriver to the right gently to open the seam a bit more.

Maybe because it was my first time and I'm a big believer in being gentle the first time.....the pieces kinda peeled apart . Just.... it's plastic... it's small... and ya can't horse it.

That's my (very limited) experience with doing this

Oh.... and I had to do the 4 clicks thing to get the car to recognize the fob once I was done. I don't know if that's needed every time you change the battery. Mine needed to come apart and had to clean junk off the circuit board and battery contact so there may have been other issues

Smile Key Fob

Thank you all for the advice on my key fob but I still cannot open it, my son tried and could not open it and I finally went to the Jaguar dealer 30 miles away and guess what they could not open it.

The dealer claimed it was tampered with??? I am glad I have a spare.
