Default key fob question

have had problems with fob since purchase close to 2 years ago, wheni bought the 02, the remote wouldn't work, replaced battery, reprogrammed via the ignition and it worked, then various times it wouldn't work and i would need to reprogram, my question is, it stopped working again and won't reset, or reprogram, I'm going to replace battery again in a few days to see if this works, the key works doors, starts car etc. my question then would be , if battery is dead, and just needs replaced, would key still operate the door, just as key, or is there possibly a more expensive problem?

Hi Bill,
what about trying this in the general " TECH " help section or maybe a pm to one of the Techs themselves?

I'm just wondering if you may get a quicker more qualified response that'll help?

All the best
Jim

The flip style remotes have been problematic since their inception. They have been updated numerous times. The only ones that work reliably are the ones with the suffix AJ which is the latest model. To check your suffix remove the key portion and on the back of the fob is a part number(top line)that ends in 2 letters. The printing is small, if your eyes are good you will be able to see it otherwise use a magnifier. Any suffix other than AJ is suspect and batteries are a waste of money. I am surprised your fobs haven't been replaced at some point at the dealer. There has been an active service action that applies to cars out of warranty for the last 3 years. Any car that has come to the dealer complaining of faulty fobs would have been replaced at no cost. Unfortunately this service action expired last month. If your fob is not an AJ model PM me and I may have a few stashed.
