Default Key Problems

I went to the dealer to get my key fob programmed. Turned out the remote part was bad. I was looking online to find another. Was planning on buying another online for a lot cheaper price than the dealer. It is used. Talked to the service manager at Jaguar just now, and said the remote cannot be reprogrammed to a different car. I don't really trust him. Since they are always pushy to buy parts from the dealer. Is this true?

Here's my advice. Look on ebay for a brand new one...just the remote part mind you. They are not that expensive. I actually believe the car can record used ones as well. However, why get a used when you can get a new one for not much more?

Also, I found the programming instructions for the remote and the key on this forum. So, if you can't find it, PM me, and I'll gladly send it to you. I was able to program both the remotes and the keys.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Default B.S.

I bought a fob and an uncut key on thE Bay and had no trouble programming it. The instructions posted here on the forum worked perfectly.

I put the fob onto the existing cut key - six months later i still have to go visit the dealer to get reamed having the key cut - none of the three locksmiths I visited would cut the switchblade key.

I was thinking about buying one. Off ebay. But was the fob brand new? I found a cheap used fob online. And the numbers match up on the inside of the fobs. Just didn't know if you can program a different car after the key has already been programmed for a car.

Default Eitehr way...

Eitehr way - you can program new ones and reprogram previously owned ones. The procedure of extending your left and right pinkie fingers and turning the key 4 times between off and accessory while singing Kumbaya at 11:47pm on the night of the Harvest Moon is intended to tell the dumb-*** computer "hey you, listen for the key fob radio signal - and then use that one from now on".

I would look for a "New" one on thEbay. my old one worked, but the blister-button contacts were starting to wear out. the new one was only about $60 or so - and a used one isn't going to save you much.

Get a new one. If you catch it right, you can get one for about $20 to $30.
