Left Rear Axle Problem
Decided to change a bad reluctor ring on the left rear axle of my 2005 X-Type Sport which I did without removing the axle. After fighting with rusty bolts and getting the new ring to fit, I finally put it together. The wheel spun freely until I tightened up the axle bolt after which it was locked up and wouldn't move. I noticed that the axle bolt seemed to thread on further than when I took it off and I'm wondering if there was supposed to be a clip of some sort on the spline that I overlooked when I put it togetherand that this is the cause of the wheel locking up. Hoping that I didn't break something in the process.
Anyone else run into this! All help greatly appreciated.

Max, any advice on replacing the reluctor ring without removing the axle? About to tackle this job myself. How much stuff had to come apart?
Did you heat the reluctor ring so it shrinks to fit when it cools? Use epoxy? Or other...?

As I recall, there was a lot of wire brush work to remove the accumulated rust where the reluctor ring slides on. Might have done some grindint wheel work as well. When it looked like the ring was almost read y to slide on, I put an ice pack on the surface, heated the ring and "convinced" it to go on by using a piece of wood and a mallet. Even with that, it was a tedious job.
Hope this helps.
