After dropping the front subframe to replace the firewall side catalytic converter, working sporadically over the few warm days we had in the last couple months, my Jag has been back on the road for a few weeks. I have gone back to revisit the inevitable parts that didn't make it back and thanks to having a camera on the phone always nearby I am happy to only have 1. It is a heat shield that goes somewhere near the front valve cover. Item marked #8 in the diagram below.

Since it is getting warmer I figure the heat shield is getting more important and I should put it back in place. Does it sit on those 2 raised screw bosses on the front valve cover? Or lower and more forward on the front valve cover studs? None of the pictures I took show this part, any help is much appreciated.

 

I just removed the cam covers this wknd and there is a heat shield like that attached to the firewall side cover. It attaches to the cam cover fastener/studs at two points.

Clearly your diagram shows the front cam cover, but that heat shield, or one like it is at the rear btwn cover and firewall. Where is that diagram from?

 

The parts blow up looks like from the SNG Barrat catalog I have. I took a look this morning and that heat shield has to be for the back side near the firewall. My front heat shield is formed to the exhaust manifold so that it doesn't interfere with the thermostat plastic pipe.
