Default Limp Mode

2002 Jaguar X-Type Auotmatic

I have been experiencing Limp Mode often an on for about 8 months. Sometimes, it comes on four or five times in one day while driving to and from work. Sometimes, it won't come on for two weeks. What is the fix?

I have read posts and find that I may need to change out the throttle body. The dealer says the same. However, the cost is great.

Now, does anyone know where I can buy one for a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance

Assuming the dealer has read the fault code(s) which would be stored to identify the fault?
All dealers will be the same price for the part so you need to go online and get one from a breakers or somewhere like ebay if there are no breakers locally.
Throttle bodies on a front, back, or side impacted damagedcar should still be OK.We have never had to replace a throttle body on any car at our bodyshop as the partisnt right at the front, back or sides to get damaged so anyone breaking a same car should havea throttle body intact. Here are some online breakers to get you started:-

Good luck.

On my '02, I started getting into Limp Mode the day after I purchased my X Type. I researched to pin point the problem (this is how I found this site ). I did replace my TB with a new one and it resolved the problem. Now I did read of someone actually having the TB cleaned out, entirely, and it resolved their problem too. its one of the reasons why I still keep my old TB because that thought still lingers in my mind. I paid $650 for mine, which is a WAY better deal then paying over $1200 from the dealer.

Talking about TB's Ive been having issues with cold starts...taking longer than usual to turn on...my buddy pulled codes and told me I need to replace my air/fuel monitoring sensor, he said its located on the side of the TB. Im like "what the hell, I just bought the TB new back in December and I've only put about 15K miles on it." [>:]He said I could return it to Jag, but I didn't buy it retail, had a tech get it to me at his discount. Oh well. [:@][/align]

I recently had the limp mode problem as well. I also had the following readings on my dash -- gearbox fault, engine fault, dsc fault......

It turned out to be the Mass Air Flow sensor after my mechanic ran the codes. now my 2002 X-type 2.5 feels faster than ever!
