Default List of all bushes

Hi, I have rattling / noises coming from under my x-type mainly the back. When i'm driving over small bumpy roads it sounds as if i am going over a really bad humpy road. I have a SE model and I know that its making unusual knocking noises.

I'm pretty sure its something to do with the bushes but i don't want to get one set of bushes changed and find out that its the wrong ones. I think it may be the rear anti roll bar bushes.

But anyway can someone please list all the bushes under the car back front and centre (if any) and possibly UK part numbers.

Is this a common problem...? Does anyone know what it could be..?

Not wishing to appear like a smart ****, but have you checked for loose items in the boot of the car?
Recently my wife complained of a similar situation and it turned out to be the spare tyre which had worked loose and was bumping around on rough roads.
Cheap and easy so worthy of inclusion into the first round of elimination.

What year and how many miles?

Its a 2003 / 53 plate, about 84,000 miles...

Its definetely not stuff in the boot, although there is stuff in the boot but its not that kind of noise. And its not just a noise, I can feel it aswell. Also I have had stuff in and out of the boot but the noise still remains. Funny thing is though some times the noise, rattle or whatever it is is not as bad as other times and feels smooth and sometimes it feels so crap.

However, when you mentioned checking the spare wheel, it got me thinking, i'm just thinking that if it is I will feel like such a mug, but then I really want it to be the spare wheel. But then again although the noise is mainly in the rear aswell, its kinda in the centre aswell....

When I phoned Jag about my rear, they said it may be the rear anti roll bar bushes....its very common apparantly. Dont know if they have that on the front.

george.mater, change your front sway bar bushings and you should be good to go.

monz87, start with changing your rear sway bar bushings. If the knocking noises persists. I would go with replacing the rear shocks.

Did a write up on changing the rear ARB bushes.
More usual cause are the (2) bushes in the rear lower control arm (new arm needed if worn as bushes not available seperately and arm depends on VIN)
You can buy these online from David Manners website
Front knocking on my 02 X type was the drop links which have 2 joints on each one that commonly wear usually around 65k or so.(MOT failure)
Bought a Delphi one from Andrew Pages for £10 (mine was same as Mondeo MK3 (there are 2 kinds metal or plastic get the right one)).

Hey so I have checked that its nothing in my boot making the noise and its not the spare wheel.

I'm thinking if I should take it to Jag to investigate, but that costs £120 per hour, and they will have to test drive it and then by the time they lift the car to check underneath i'm thinking easily 1.5 to 2 hours meaning about £260 just to look at it!!!

I have taken it to a couple of local garages who lifted the car and checked for free, but even then they cannot say for certain, they say to change links and maybe bushes but there just not sure! I think only Jag or a Jag specialist will no for certain

This is why i'm thinking if someone can name all bushes in the rear and if any in the centre then I can buy them all online and get them all fitted on in one go and pay less for labour even though all the parts may not have been required. As opposed to buy one set of bushes, pay to have them changed, then find out its not that, then to buy different bushes etc... you see where i'm going.

So far I know;
1. Rear Anti Roll Bar Bushes
2. Rear Sway Bar Bushes

I may also get rear anti roll bar links but who knows more...?

So I have replaced my rear shocks, the existing ones were still good! I also replaced the rear anti roll bar links and bushes, ambient air temperature sensor and front and back pads. Forget the pads and the sensor, about the rattling and knocking noise:

Well, when I go down a bump, a slight knocking noise is gone, however, when i go slightly off road, the car still feels rattly underneath. Its driving me crazy. When I say slighly off road, I mean a road not 100% smooth. My mate has an SE model too and he has 18 inch rims and his feels smoother.
However, sometimes when i drive it, it feels smooth and not rattly and absorbs the flaky uneven roads and feels cusiony and I love it, but other times it just feels rattly. As it doesn't always happen, it may direct to a specific problem perhaps. i'm thinking maybe something at the front aswell.
and the mechanic guy where I got the parts put on rteckons its the following part: what is that part even called? I cant remember what he told me. also any more ideas guys

What is the part i have arrowed in the picture..?
I don't think that is the rear control arm, I think there is already a new rear lower control arm fitted, it was done before i baught the car and everytime the car goes on the ramp the part stands out quite new. just aint sure if its the rear lower control arm, i think it is.

Try applying slight brake next time you feel the rattle. If it goes away, then it's the brake pads that are rattling.

If the rattle is still there, my bet is what you are pointing to in the picture - rear lower control arm in forward position.

Its definetely not the break pads, the problem was there before and is still there after front and back brake pads replacement.

Where i am pointing in the picture, are you sure that is the rear lower control arm..?

Yes, that one is prone to break down due to high load and lot of deflection. Many people have replaced that arm for the same reason as your case.

However, don't write off the brake pads. The rattle is not due to the pads being worn but due to non-perfect fit between the backing plate and the caliper. Try to brake slightly while maintaining speed over known bumpy road. This will rule out the brakes as the culprit. What have you got to loose?

That is actually the rear upper control arm I am pointing at, its the more v shaped one as opposed to the lower one which is not so curved and more round.

It is also common that the rear upper control arm could cause this..?

I went along with a mate today to the garage, he wanted to check something on his jag x-type so I managed to take a snap of the underneath. As you can clearly see from the picture below, where I have labeled rear lower control arm, on my car this part is very new and where i have labelled rear upper control arm, the same garage told me my problem maybe this part, that is the part I uploaded a picture of before but Tony you said its the rear lower control arm in forward position..?

I've mistaken then. You should wait for others to address your question.
