Default Looking for Tranny Advice

I have an 04 x-type 3.0 that suddenly started with tranny issues. I was rolling to stop at a light when it turned green and got back on the throttle, the tranny kicked hard into gear and during the next updshift seemed to slip , took longer to get to the next gear. I would supoose this was 1-2 or 2-3. I was right outside my offcie at the time so i parked it for the rest of the day. On the commute home i did not experience any issues (25 miles) but i didnt accelerate hard either. Later that night i tested it again and it did the same from 1st to 2nd, very hard shift with what seemed like a slip between upshift. I have 56K on it and i didnt purcahse any addnl coverage. Any advice on whether to take this to an AAMCO or the dealer? I'm in Long Island New York and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

failed to mention check engine light came on immedietaly when the tranny jerked the first time. Codes are 0171, 0174 and P1111. Not sure why i would get lean mixture codes. The P1111 i understand is Jag System pass code.

Lean bank codes. Most likely a vac leak, at least that's where I'd suggest you start. Have a look at your PCV hose running from the intake to the valve cover next to the airbox. Look for splits or cracks. If your hose is smooth, a newer ribbed version is available. Could also be a leak from the IMT o rings (search the board, plenty of info on that one). Also brake booster vac line check valve is another thing to check.

Have a look at those and report back....

Default Vac Leak

thanks chris, turns out the check valve between the manifold and brake booster was cracked & leaking. expalins dtc 171 and 174. Ill replace this weekend but i cant imagine how this would cause the bucking thats coming from this tranny, but i've been surprised before. fingers crossed.

In simple terms, the bucking comes from the ECU being confused by the vac leak and trying to make fuel adjustments to compensate. So your tranny gets confused about when to shift. Your tranny should be fine....hopefully.

Mimmo, you probably just experienced the restricted performance of "limp mode". Won't let you go hard on the accelerator.

When you go to replace the brake boost hose, remember to push down on the collar where it connects to to intake and pull up on the hose.

Great news!

If you haven't already changed your PCV hose, I'd suggest you go ahead and do so as a bit of preventive maintenance. They are only $12 or so from the dealer for the newer ribbed version.
