Loose Lead In Engine Compartment

Hi, I have a 2008 2.2 Diesel X Type. I have been having some issues of late and found a loose lead floating around in the area if the battery. Cannot fathomh where it belongs. Can anyone advise? Many thanks

That is for a battery maintainer used in shipping when the car was new. Doesn't do anything now.

My car has a small clip on the side of the battery box to keep this lead neat!
