Default Loud Buzzing Noise When Trying To Start

Hi Guys

Just joined and really hope someone can clarify my issue.

This morning my 2004 x-type 2.0 Diesel wouldnt start on the first 2 attempts, 3rd time was the charm and all was good.

Once the coil light had gone & turned the key only for there to be a loud buzzing noise but no attempt of the engine to actually start, this happend twice.

Once it did start the car was prefect!
However once i got to my work i turned the car off, waited a few moments & tried again, only for the exact same issue to happen.
But again on the 3rd attempt it started perfectly....

What is going on?
How difficult is this to sort?

Hi.
I do not have experience on diesel engines, but my 3.0 petrol did the same thing. I corrected it by changing the battery. check the voltage on your battery and also if it is more than 5 eyears old, change it regardless of the problem you have.

Regards

Ok so i had the battery checked & all is good with that.

I've had no problem since lunch time yesterday, the car starts first time every time & drives perfectly, so im pretty stumped as to what the issue was.

I would too have said the battery. I (again with my petrol) had this happen, My cousin who is a Jaguar approved mechanic came to look at it, the diagnosis was the battery. You may find that it doesn't happen again but if it does I would recommend that you replace the battery as it will more than likely remove the problem long term.
