Mileage for Clutch Replacement

I have 110k on mine and I would say it probably has a solid 40k left in it. Bought it at 90k and have used it for towing and spirited driving since. No issues with it but it doesn't seem to have "feel" of a new clutch at this point. Clutch kits aren't real pricey for the X type considering you'll be replacing the slave at the same time since it is internal. Much cheaper than replacing a slush box. If it feels okay and the car doesn't seem abused I'd go for it after proper vetting.

For what it's worth, there never seems to be a whole lot of posts on here related to clutch issues. I know the manuals are a lot less prevalent than the autos, but even so, it does not appear that the clutches wear out any faster than any other car or that there are any other inherent problems with them. If there were, I'm sure there would be enough posts about them. So, yeah, I'm with everyone else. All depends on who drove it. A clutch would be way down on the list of things that would be a concern on these cars. Good luck with your search!

86k miles on my car. Bought it used 11k miles and one year ago. I have no indication that clutch wear will be any worse than any other car. It *may* even be better.
These cars use a dual-mass flywheel. This is not a hugely common item in the manual transmission world. My understanding of it is that there's a mechanism in the flywheel assembly that will slip if you let off the clutch too abruptly in high-torque conditions. That lessens the shock to the clutch and the rest of the driveline. Just after buying my car - not during the pre-purchase test drive - I managed to hear this happening. It sounds like a ratcheting mechanism for a split-second, and might make you wonder if there's something wrong with the clutch. There isn't - it's the dual mass flywheel protecting the rest of the driveline.
And again, there doesn't seem to be an abundance of problems related to the dual-mass flywheel. Like others have said about the lack of clutch-related forum posts, the dual mass flywheel doesn't get much attention here either.
