Default MP3 player connectivity?

What are my options for connecting an MP3 player (for simplicity sake, say an iPod) to my new Jag? In my previous Saab, I had an AUX input. Anything similar with the Jag?

from experiance..it won't work as well as they want you to believe. One of the reasons I upgraded to an entire new radio system.

where did you get that information from? i would like to know, because i have to disagree with you there racer. it works flawlessly for me, with one exception. the unit stopped working at one point, but was replaced for free (2 months after i bought it). seems the first batch of these had some problems but that has been addressed. i have the ACM and the sound quality is the same if not better than the cd player. it really is better than the cd player, but i think that is because i have all my mp3 files encoded at 192 or higher, with most being 320. it is 10x better than any fm modulator. and having the steering wheel controls work with the ipod or usb inputs was the selling point for me.

I'm sure some love it some hate it. Sound quality is much better than the previous method of tuning it to your radio. The only draw back i have is you don't have a disply available to read your ipod.

All good. I prefer my new radio that has nav/plays every CD/DVD known/SDRAM/Tv/and Ipod with touch screen.

See my post on the radio.

Course, some will say i have too much.

Thanks

i never knew you previously had the ACM installed, first you have mentioned it. i guess you are just looking at it from a different perspective, with different needs. to me, $350 to have that installed OEM with warranty from the same people who service my car outweighed $600 or more plus installation plus hand built faceplate for the new head unit. i gotta say i am a bit jealous of your setup, and wouldn't mind it but i promised myself i was not going to go overboard on the car this time, and i already have. just ordered the laser cut and etched piece of acrylic for the rear of the speaker box i am building. nice part is the cost is almost completely offset from the sale of the lowering springs from my last car. this is what is going to be etched into the acrylic for the rear of the box.

while i do not have an ipod, the reviews others have given have been very good about it. one feature you lost, but i hope you find a way to get back, is the steering wheel control. how often do you need to look at an ipod really. i have a creative 30gig mp3 player, and in addition to playlists it has features like favorties, most played, etc. i am sure the ipod has something similar and playlists as well. via the steering wheel you can skip playlists as you would change cds. to be honest, i do not even use that anymore. i bought a 6gig usb key online for about $60 and leave that connected to the unit. in my case, i set up lists by directories which are also changed like a cd. it holds near 1000 songs even with my high encoding. plus, it is in the center console, out of sight. i like stealth. when (if?) i get tired of those songs i can always swap out for a new set.

Yeah the steering wheel setup needs the interface module...26 bucks, but i got used to using my remote that it doesn't matter anymore....too much info to cycle through that the steering wheel functions don't have...
I have a 60 gig Ipod and over 7K songs, and still growing. I don't like to have it shuffle. My music depands on my moods......but becasue I have soo many songs...(the display is nice and i can see what's up next on my radio, which is a bonous) I find it difficult to cycle through the songs to find the one i want to hear. I started using the SDRAM, 1 gig...that is much better now for my music mood swings...I put my fav songs on for the month and I'm good to go...

Nice design for your speaker...how big is it and I'm wondering if you can get it cut with the X and Leapord only in silver. Outline only...know what i mean? I think it'll look shard on the fenders....

the piece will be approx. 12" x 24" with the logo stretched to 11" x 23". i could get it with just the x and the cat, but i like the logo along the bottom as well. it will be etched into the acrylic, so no color. the etching will be on the inside of the panel, and it will be like frosted glass i guess is the easiest way to explain it. the area in the pic that is white is what will be etched with the black area staying clear so you can see the speakers inside. then i am going to router out 2 channels on the inside top of the box to countersink 2 small neon tubes. what do you mean about the fenders?

here is the last piece i had them make for my previous truck. the brown is just the protective paper coating it came delivered in. it was a suzuki grand vitara with jl speakers. this piece went over the amps and capacitor inbetween the speaker boxes. i had them cut the piece to my size and then cut out the logos for hot air to rise from the amps. the new piece will be solid with just the etching on the inside, but this will give you some idea of what i am talking about.

i saw an clarion EQ with an rca aux port in the front, just install the eq and play any ipod or mp3 player with rca wires. its better than a tape adapter or fm module
