Default My '03 X-type keyhole gets stuck sometimes

Sometimes when I remove the key from the ignition, and open my door to leave, the car dings as if the key is still in the ignition. When I looked into the empty keyhole, I saw there is a tab that covers about 1/2 the opening. When you insert the key, the tab gets pushed down, and that indicates the key is in. When I pull it out, sometimes that tab does not reset, so I have to put the key back into the ignition and jiggle it around to get the tab to reset. It feels like the grooves on my key are worn out enough that it doesn't automatically reset the tab when I remove the key. Which seems strange since I only have 24k miles on the car. Anyone else experience this?

When mine does this a give it a little squirt of electronic cleaner and insert/withdraw the key a couple of times to get rid of dirt and gunk.

I only got the car last year, so I guess I missed that! Will try the lubrication. When it happens on mine, and I open the door, the car dings like I left my lights on, so I couldn't leave until I figured it out. This forum is a wealth of accumulated wisdom, thank you!

Agree with trying to lube it, a very small squirt of WD-40 int he lock cylinder followed by inserting and turning the key a few times has done wonders for many locks for me over the years. No need to squirt very much, and don't forget to wipe any excess off the key when you're done.
