My key won't unlock my doors.

My key won't unlock my doors.
I recently purchased a 2006 Jaguar X-Type. When I parked it at my house I put the key in the door and turned it to the right to lock it. The next day I went to get in the car. I put the key in the door and turned it to the left. Nothing happened. I thought that maybe it had to be turned to the right again so I tried that and it made the locking noise but it wouldn't unlock. The fob battery is dead so I can't try that. I can't look at the manual because it is locked in the car. Also a blinking red light can be seen on the center console when the key is inserted into the door. I don't know if that's relevant or not.

Welcome to the forum,
Please post an intro in the new members section when you can.
Did you only get one key with the car?
Any Tibbe key will lock the car but you need the right one to open it, you should get a battery for the fob and hope for the best.
I assume the key you have fits the ignition but it may have been changed.

Yes, obviously you need to put a new battery in the fob -if that allows the car to be unlocked remotely then the next step is to lubricate the door lock mechanism - and this assumes that the key does in fact work in the ignition.
The flashing red light means that the car is locked and alarmed.

Is this the only key that came with the car? Try to find out from the previous owner if he bought the key in eBay and had it cut. One fix for the remote is to change the battery. I'll link a video on how to do this. Very Simple and inexpensive! You can spray WD-40 in the lock barrel where you manually put the key. The light that is blinking is the Security LED it lets you know the status of the system. I'll link a copy of the online manual where you can find all the information you need. Do you remember if the car locked automatically if you drove away?
