I recently bought a used 2003 Jaguar X- Type V6 3.0L with 103k miles, it now has 106k miles. I live in Arkansas and we recently had some bad storms that led to flooding. The day after the the storms ended, my car read "engine systems fault" and "gearbox fault". No check engine light on though. I shut her down and started her back up 15 minutes later and made it home. Now a week later she is still doing the same thing.
My buddy check the codes and got "P1000", "P0121" and "C1165". Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've read a lot on here already but haven't seen anything with my specific codes. I love my car and refuse to not fix it.
your c1165 is right hand rear wheel speed sensor circuit fault.
with all the rain you have had I would check and clean the plug also remove the sensor and look down the hole and see how the ring looks. if you still have the code the you will need to check the wiring.
the P0121 is throttle position sensor.
again check and clean the connector
The P1000 is just system not able to complete scan as there are pending codes.(you have 2 so that explains that)
Okay so I checked the connector for the TPS and it's broken. Slides right off and looks beaten up. Also looked like it was glued on, it had a bunch of clear goo everywhere. Here's a picture of it.
I had tried a zip tie, stayed there but problem was still there.
I've been here since I was 10, I might as well just stay now haha.
Might be a good idea to clean the throttle butterfly also, it could be gummed up and dragging, remember to clean bith sides and the barrel it resides in
Today I replaced that connector and it ran fine for about 20 minutes, and as I was pulling into my driveway engine systems fault and gearbox fault appeared again. Any suggestions?
A few things to check just based on my personal experience with rain/gearbox fault issues:
- check your battery posts/connectors (clean as needed)
- check your ECM/TCM/ABS module connectors (clean as needed)
- check engine bay for loose/frayed/cracking electrical wires that might be getting wet (replace electrical tape/protective covers as needed)
- if you can, pull the ECM/TCM and examine circuit boards for arcing/shorting/corrosion (clean and seal problem areas with silicone)
After a long struggle I was finally able to rid myself of the gearbox fault. Havent had an issue since, even in heavy rain.
Thank you! I'm waiting until this weekend to check my ECM. I checked the TCM a week ago and cleaned that up, just been waiting for my tamper proof bit to come in. I noticed my weather seal is completely gone behind the air filter and mud on the air filter. I will post back after the weekend.
