OK, I stand corrected.. when your sunroof stops working.. everyone just start pressing the buttons randomly. that is how you fix it ... hehe
See, now, there ya go again, Bo. Being that Condescending A** again.
First you call us all "Bubble-headed jag owners", and then you say we're just like dumb monkeys who get lucky hitting random keys.
It's not 'random'. And it has worked for (seemingly) everyone who has tried it.

I really don't understand your problem with it, unless it's just that somebody OTHER than you had something helpful to offer, and that threatens you?
I dunno. you tell me.

But this is why you STILL have not had the satisfaction of reading my (rather good) description of how to change the right-hand T-case seal.

yea i had the same problem. On y way home from school it was plus 27, its was hot, i go to hit the sunroof open button, and it just does the exact same thing, i begin to trip ***** as one of my favourite features/nesscities breaks, i get home, and i find the number of the place that works on euro cars in my town, they want 200 to just look at , so i book the appointment, for 2 days later. then i post the problem on here, so i have 5 minutes left before i have to go to work, and no help, then i search for anything for th sunroof, i find the reset functions and i try, it fixes it, i was so happy and proud of this site. and i get in my car and drive to wokr with satisfaction and yes, it is a alignment problem, my theory is that, i left the sunroof half in closeing mode, and down when i turned the car off and it messed up the computer, only a theory.

McJaguar, thanks, this worked for me. Just got an X-Type that had this problem, the previous owner thought it was a failed relay.

This should be a sticky for newbies...

Dude, not sure what your issue is. Do a search for sunroof reset and you'll find the same instructions over and over. I've posted it twice myself.

It's not randomly pressing buttons, it is the Jaguar moonroof reset. All it requires is pressing the forward button 3 times, not all that random. Why does the sunroof decide not to work? Who knows but the fix is as McJag describes.

I think our '02 X Type has a Moonroof, not the Sunroof.

Are the instructions to reset it different?

My problem is a little different. The sunroof opens and closes fine. However, on occassion when i close the sunroof automatically, it closes all the way and then re-opens on it's own. I close it automatically again and it closes automatically and then re-opens a second time. It will not close automatically on the third time and i have to hold the button for the roof to close and then it stays close. This started happening after I had to replace my battery. I read somewhere that after disconnecting the battery, the car would have to learn how to do certain things again. For instance, my windows would not lower or raise automatically for the first 24 hours after replacing my battery. It's not a big deal but I am wondering if the previous instructions will also fix the problem.
