if the Nav screen fails .. it's default is defrost for safety.. so looks like you need a new nav screen.. there is a place in California that rebuilds them. had 2 like that already.

it's weird how some people don't flinch when you say $3000 and others cry when you say $500 ..

no pretty simple .. less then 10min.. just have to be carefull with the fiber optic cables .. the do no bend. and you wud have to verify part numbers before you install a used one.

Ive seen the screen go blank more then twice and both times it ended up being the navigation module in the trunk
only screens ive seen go bad were on xk8"s
for testing purposes its pretty much just plug and play with a known good module
better to pay diag at a dealer or just swap a nav module from another car to yours to verify fault
that is if you know of someone with nav in there Xtype thats willing to let you swap modules to verify your fault
before i spent money on any part with nav faults i"d definently verify module in trunk is or isnt ok first
IE nav module in trunk being module that you insert nav disc into
good luck

if it was a nav reader in the trunk .. then the climate control wud not default to full defrost.. Nav reader wud only affect nav and hard keys for climate wud still function. xk head unit is a totally different Nav system

Gotta love it. Pick one. I like the denso system personally.
I have seen the reader pull down the screen once. I unplugged the nav module and screen came back. Not normal though, if screen dies, stays that way.
