RE: nav system for x type?
it controls everything. air, nav, and audio. i once asked the dealer about getting it put into my old X-Type. They told me it would be cheaper for me to trade my car in for one that has the nav... so i would guess it is not cheap. someone has retrofit the OEM nav screen into their X Ican't remember who. if you search a lil you should be able to find it. or maybe someone will post the link here for you. good luck

X-dave has lengthy posts on how to install the factory navigation but I wouldn't do it. It would be less expensive to buy an aftermarket system and have a custom made dash kit that you want made to suit your requirements as to how exact you want it to be. Shoot you could get a carputer installed into your dash and have a computer in your car for the price of the stock navi would be and it'd be less work! LINK

I have researched it and found that it would cost over $1k probably close to $2K to do the stock nav system, all depending on what kind of deals you can find for all the parts! There is a thread on the jag uk site on how to actually do the conversion. Here is the link:

I am going the aftermarket route and bought a $500 system with most of the bells and whistles (bluetooth, GPS, USB,etc). I am still working on getting it installed. Finding all the wiring adapters was a pain and not too cheap since they all seem to come from the UK. I can give you all the parts required for the aftermarket system if you want to go that route.
Search the forum I believe there are a few who have installed an aftermarket unit with pics. The UK site also has some info on aftermarket installs.

Thousand bucks should be obtainable even with a back up camera as long as you are going to do the work yourself. You should be able to get everything together to do the install and pay someone else to install the stuff for no more than $1100 and I wouldn't pay more than $150 to have it installed.

I got it off ebay. Right now the market is saturated with them so no real competition, at least not there. The brand is Sino, don't know much about it but retail is around $900. Others say it is a real good unit, I'm still working on getting mine installed. I am doing it myself.
If you want Pioneer or Kenwood you will wind up paying around $800, plus you will need adapters for the bluetooth and GPS.
