teenwolf, honestly, trying to sell a car with a bad tranny is going to be a hard sell to begin with because who wants to buy a car that needs a new tranny right off the bat. If you do sell it, it will probably be at much under the $5K. You might get say $3K or so. I know you don't want to put that kind of money into the car, but it would probably be worth your while to get atleast a good used tranny put into the car. Won't be quite as expensive as getting the tranny rebuilt, but you will have something that is very reliable. Looking on Ebay quickly, they seem to be going for about $950. Then figure in another $600-900 for install. I think you will find that it will be much cheaper that way than having to try to take a loss on the car or trying to have the current tranny rebuilt.

I wouldhave to agree. Our cars are a tough enough sell in good condition, let alone one with a bad transmission. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but I think Thermo is spot on here (as always). Although spending at least two large on a seven year old car sucks it's probably the best option. Good luck and sorry about your issue.

thanks for the input . i took your advice thermo and checked out ebay, should be able to get the car fixed for around $2k which isnt bad, taking into account the vehicle brand. found a good trans out of a 2002 with 49k on it.
it wouldve been a shame to have to get rid of the car its just about perfect. interior still looks brand new. car would be perfect if some punk didnt steal the hood ornament.
now i just gotta find out why my headlights decided to quit working.

Agree with Thermo. The car currently is worth more to you than anyone else. So fix it, enjoy it a bit longer - you say it is in excellent shape - and you don't have to worry about the tranny. Then when you do decide to sell, you can do so by selling a vehicle that runs and has a new(ish) tranny - a major point of concern to a prospective buyer, and actually get a decent return. You likely won't recoup the full costs of the tranny repair, but you'll get some back and you'll have been able to use the car (which that in itself has value) in the meantime.
