Hello,

A little history of me... I have had a Jaguar for a few years now. My XJ8 blew a timing chain so I bought another XJ8 with a bad trans and I plan to fix one of them and use the other as a parts car. I really like these cars and for some reason can see how to fix them. But for something to drive in the mean time I bought a 2002 X-Type 3.0. It is a pretty blue. I like the car but have a few questions.

The car has 17 inch wheels on it. I know most guys like the bigger wheels but I much prefer 16 inch wheels. The car rides rough compared to the smooth XJ8's that I am use to. I would love to get some 16 inch wheels for it. So my questions are:

1. Can the XJ8 16" standard wheels fit the X-Type?

2. If not what would be a better riding tire for the X-Type?

3. Do you have any advice for a first time X-Type owner?

Stay away fgrom the cont pro tires that the x types come with. They are the worst tire ever. I like the Michelin on mine,smoother ride I think. Make sure to change all your fluids. Transfer case is top on the list. Lots of info here about that. As for rims X type rims have a limited amount because of the awd design. There is a lot about that on here as well.

So you would suggest that I keep the wheels that I have and just get different tires?

Here is a list of all the Jaguar wheels that will fit on X-Types, S-Types, XFs, and XJs. The only problems may be trying to use smaller wheels on cars with bigger brake rotors (e.g., S-Type wheels on an STR), or larger wheels on cars with little clearance (e.g., 19" XF wheels on a X-Type).

After looking for some used wheels, I think for now I will just get some new tires and stay with the 17" wheels it has on it.

I was looking at the tires on it and noticed that it has 4 different tires on it... When I got the car I just saw that all the tires needed replaced so I did not look at them too close.

Hoping that putting a fresh set of matching tires will improve the ride. Looking at tires now. Anyone have suggestions for a really smooth riding tire on these?
