Turn the key to the on position and move the gearshift lever to the D position. Turn the key to the start position . The car will not start, but the instrument indicator lights will light up. You can check which ones may be burned out.

Gary, the hand brake light most likely is a sticky switch in the center console. A little bit of WD-40 (electrical grease in a spray can) should free up the switch and lead to better light function.

As for the cruise control, I bet you will find that the cruise will not work any time the ABS light is lit. When it is off it will work. This is part of the design of the car. The car will go into a "safety mode" (use this loosely and not to be confused with the "fail safe mode"). When you get the ABS light, the ECU will prevent certain features from working. The most notable being the cruise. This is because the car cannot be 100% sure what the actual speed of the vehicle is. So, to ensure something bad doesn't happen when the ABS light is on, it disables the cruise control. If you take your car to a local auto parts store or you have a code reader, you should be able to plug in a code reader and you are looking for one of the following codes: C1145, C1155, C1165, or C1175. These are the wheel speed sensors. Let us know which one of these you have (or what code came up if it wasn't one of these) and from there we can give you a better idea of what is happening to your car.

If I had to take a guess, one of your rear wheel reluctance rings is rusting out and is causing intermittent signal, leading to your random ABS light. Granted, the second thing would be to check your wheel bearing to make sure you don't have one that is going on you and this is causing the problem. If you need to know how to check these yourself, let me know. It is easy to do.
