Hi, I have a 2009 X-TYpe that has no Tail lights, but has Stop lights on the left hand sized, the right hand sized is fine. I have found that it keeps blowing the fuse. Have removed the the rear lights cluster. Still blows the fuse, so it not the rear light Cluster.
I think I can rule out the Light Switch as a problem. She does not have any electric codes. Maybe I need to run new wire from the fuse to the tail light?... Maybe Main Switch to fuse is the problem?... Earth Wire?... Bat to switch?... Help
Am I right... you have the brake lights all working in left and right rear clusters and high stop is also working?
Are you only missing the normal red tail lights that come on when you turn on park and main beam?
And those are missing only in the left rear of the vehicle.
Which fuse number is blowing?
F47 - feeds LHS rear cluster tail light and LHS rear side marker
F48 - feeds RHS rear cluster tail light and RHS rear side marker
F55 - feeds rear number plate lamps
I suspect you are blowing F47 in the passenger fuse box.
If you have isolated the left rear cluster then it can only either be a shorted rear marker lamp assembly or a short in the loom for that circuit which feed the marker and rear cluster.
The short could be to ground or across to another wire that feeds to another service that is ultimately drawing too much current for that particular fuse.
With your fuse out, do a ohms measurement to ground from the load side of the fuse carrier, you should only pick up the resistance of the marker bulb that is still in circuit with the rear cluster disconnected.
You are probably looking for the Orange/Yellow wire perhaps being pinched or chaffed in the loom somewhere.
Good luck.
Yes, it is the fuse 47 that keeps blowing and it just the tail not the stop light. Have checked the bulbs by using them in the RH cluster, they work ok on that side. Thanks for the picture it helps a lot.
I'm starting to think that there's a break in the wiring loom, so that is short to earth and blows the fuse. Would you know any jaguar garage up here in Hastings or someone to go to?
The one I use to take my S-Type to had a real good Machinic, but he moved on now, and its real gone down hill from there. Or what about Wellington?
Is there a decent auto sparky up there. It is likely just a loom problem so I am hoping with your IT background you might be able to trace this out with a bit of help.
Try disconnecting plug CA208 from the passenger fuse box, as that has two separate wires going to the rear of the vehicle to run marker and light cluster independently.
CA208 pin 4 goes to the cluster lamps
CA208 pin 11 goes to the rear side marker lamp
If you disconnect the plug at the fuse box then measure from ground to pin 4 and then pin 11, you should be able to determine which wire is the culprit.
Then it is a choice whether to go on the hunt following the loom to see if you can spot a physical damage point (pinched point or abrasion point), or snip the faulty one at both ends and run a new one alongside.
Here are some other images for loom position and fuse box connector assignment to help.

Sorry I realized I put up the estate/wagon wiring harness layout diagram earlier , so here is the picture of the sedan wiring harnesses. Sedan harness layout
