Non functional tail light on my X-type
Hey guys, new to the forum.
I got pulled over and ticketed for having my tail light out which sucked, i went to my local pep boys to have the bulbs replaced and every bulb they put in would not light up. They then unplugged the wiring to see if there was any water damage and it seemed okay, the reverse and blinker work and they said it cannot be a fuse because both of the lights would be out. Does i really need to get a whole new light?

shaguar, based on what you are describing, you have an issue with the board that the lights plug into. It sounds like to me that you have a bad ground bar for the inner lights. You can help confirm this by pulling out on your headlight switch to the second spot and seeing if your rear fog lights work. If the rear fog lights only light up on the good side, then you need a new bulb board. Unfortunately, about the only way that you are going to get that board is to either 1) buy a new tail light assembly, or 2) find a used one at a wrecking yard/e-bay.
As for getting a new tail light assembly, in your case, you don't care what the tail light assembly looks like, so, this can play into your favor. If you look on e-bay, you can find "not insurance rated" tail lights for sale for like $25 plus S&H. I just picked one up for $35 delivered to my house through e-bay. Then you pull the board off of the back of the tail light, transfer the bulbs over and all should be good for you.
Good luck in finding a used tail light.
