Default Not very cold A/C

I've recently (today) developed a problem with my A/C. It gets cool, but not cold. I figured that it was probably low on refrigerant, but checked the pressures in the system and they appear to be pretty normal. 40ish PSI on the low side and 230-240 PSI on the high side. I can't get at my workshop manual (haven't tried to since I put on Windows 7). It exhibited all the signs of low refrig.. would warm up at a stop light, etc. Any ideas as to what's going on? Friday the 13th strikes again!

I would go to jag first and find out, had this issue on mine and it needed a recharge.

If your pressures are correct as you say, I'd look at the interior fan and the actuators. If I recall there's a blend door actuator. Are you getting good airflow from the interior vents?

Yes I am. No problems with air flow. I'm fairly convinced it's low freon, but the pressure readings make me leery of just dumping freon into the system. The system worked ok on Thursday, but not Friday....roughly the same temperature both days....

Is the return line (LP side) in the AC cold? If it is then the refrigerant side of the system is working and the problem is probably getting cold air out of the system. If the door actuator has failed/malfunctioned you can still get good airflow and no cold air.

Also set the temperature to the highest and lowest settings for a while to move the actuators.

I'll check the line (I didn't do that yesterday). I did check to see if the recirc. door is working properly and it is.

The line was cool, not cold, so I added about 3 oz. of freon and the system is working much better. The pressure is still in line with what it should be so I'm going to assume that it was just low freon and call it a day!

Default Check Clutch plate

Check the clutch plate assembly on the compressor, (Ran by serpentine belt) on bottom of passenger side. Mine just failed and is now making loud grinding sound and after inspection and research on this site, I have found that the part failed and is literally falling apart.

no problem with the compressor... all is quiet. The system just needed freon. I'll have to get it checked for leaks next spring.

My a\c is doing the same thing. I'm going to check the freon first then I'll go from there.

I have that issue right now with "cool" air. I'll try the freon and just see how that goes

only add a little at a time. There's not a whole lot of charge in these things and overcharging is very bad.
