Default occasional drop in idle

my 04 with 49,000 mls has an occasional drop in idle at a stop. it drops down to about 5 rpm, sounds like its about to stall and recovers. I actually think I am beginning to feel slight buck from time to time as i drive. Acceleration very good with no hesitation. I also run high test for fuel. Any ideas...and thanks in advance for the insight

My first check or replacement, is to replace the MAF sensor in the intake tube just up stream from the throttle body..Easy to do.

Next question..is your's an Auto or Manual transmission?

I am amazed that it can recover from 5rpm... that is one turn of the motor every 12 seconds....
that would be pretty weird wouldn't it?

I'm sure it was meant that it LOOKED like it dipped to 5 RPM..but we all know the tach is not a very precise intrument, which it has a lot of over swing...[sm=sigh.gif]

uhhhh..... maybe she meant 500 RPM? [&:]
I'm reasonably certain the tach doesn't read all the way down to '5RPM'.....
and I think this was possibly Bo's 'engineer-personality-attempt-at-humor' way of poking fun at the priginal post.
I dunno, Bo? Am I onto somethin' there? [:-]

Try this at least..Disconnect the electrical connector for the MAF, remove the two screw holding the MAF in..Take some electronic contact cleaner (non lube type you can get at Pepboys or Radio Shack) and spray any film or gunk off the two little Thermistors (there is one down inside too) ..Do not touch with bare fingers..
I clean mine once a year.
