Default Odd Tire size question

so winter will soon be here.
I have a set of almost new Nokian Hakkapeliitta ice tires.
Last year i knocked a chunk out of the sidewall on 1 tire.
My tires are 225/45/17, i cannot find one of these tires anywhere, though i have found a 235/45/17 Nokian Hakkapeliitta.... How would using this tire affect the drive, and if acceptable would it go up front or rear?
Thanks

Don't do it. You would have one tire that has a larger rolling circumference than the rest. Our AWD system would not be very happy which means you would be real unhappy with the potential damage. Is there a market for two of the three almost new Hakki's you have? Could help pay for the four you will need.

iownme, with you being up in NY and being in a high probability of getting on ice, having the tire spinning at a different rate is going to make things very interesting to say the least. While I have used a 225/45R17 spare with 3 tires at 235/45R17 in an emergency, I kept the speeds down and I was sure to drive home on dry roads. Driving around long term can definitely result in something going really south on you. Will it, can't say beyond a shadow of a doubt. BUt, why take the chance.

Don't do it, those tyre sizes are out there and available, perhaps just to look around a little more?

Have you tried our forum tyre sponsors ?

Nokian tires have a really good grip but seen a lot of them with broken carcass. They are really common tires over here in Estonia, so every now and then you see some Nokian tires with bumps on the side or at the thread area. I would suggest some other brand.

Latest results for winter tire test were:
Studded
1. Continental ContiIceContact
2. Nokian Hakkapeliita 8
3. Pirelli Ice Zero

Non-studded
1. Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice2
2. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2
3. Michelin X-Ice X13

Thanks all.
I picked up the dunlops today, 4 for $115, this year i dont have the spare cash for new tires, especially as my nokians have only been used for 1 season, i did like them a lot, so i'll continue to look for a 4th, at least i now have snow tires in case i cant find one b4 the snow comes.
It was Thermo who suggested i go with brand name snow tires a few years back after i was complaining about poor snow handling, and boy was that some good advice!
