Brought my car to a different mechanic. Looks like the vacuum leak causing these 2 annoying codes is a result of a vacuum leak coming from the brake booster. Does this sound right to you guys ? I’m going to change out the brake booster vacuum line first to see if that solves the problem. If not they will be installing a new brake booster. I’m attaching a picture of the Techs notes. Please tell me what you think. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁🍽.
NYCJag2006, that is very likely. If you look at that line running from the top of the intake to the brake booster, there is a "football" in the middle of the line (a place where the line gets significantly larger). That is a check valve. The plastic of this check valve is known for getting brittle/crumbly after a few years under the hood/bonnet of the car. The line is cheap to replace. Do it yourself. Very easy to do. The hardest part is pulling the line off the top of the intake. The trick with that is to look at the connection and find the ring at the metal intake surface. The trick is to hold that ring down as you lift up on the hose connection. It should slide right out. Worst case, the little piece of plastic that is left in the intake may need to be replaced as life is not kind to this piece either and it can lead to it causing a vacuum leak. But, based on the test the mechanic did, sounding more like the leak is in the check valve than at that connection. Since you are at it, when was the last time the PCV valve/hose was replaced (if a ribbed hose, not a problem) and when were the IMT o-rings last done? If you are going to have issues, these 3 points are the main ones to start at.
