Default XTYPE central locking help

Hello,

Need help solving this mystery of central locking.

Xtype 2.0d

Central locking seems to be intermittent come the winter time, seems to work perfectly in the spring summer.

Problem = cant lock the car via the fob, just flashes and thats it.

Unlocking works 100%

I can lock the car using the key but cant unlock, seems to be an issue with the key barrel and when locking it only locks the driver side.

fuses checked and replaced.

checked the flap in the ignition which ive sprayed to hell does not seem to have one ?? and when it starts working again, there is no flap that comes down ?

new battery in fob and resynced.

any ideas please.

thanks.

Sounds like you may have some micro-switches in the drivers door mechanism that are playing up, or the door latch mech is not fully moving through to a completed rest state.
You can either buy a new door latch mechanism, or pull yours out and go through the hassle of finding and replacing the 3 or 4 switches with suitable aftermarket switches and also make sure the mech is clean, lubed and free moving again.

Note: there are two part numbers for the door latch mech.........depends whether you have a double locking feature or not.

You really should get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the ignition switch keyhole flap. There will be a flap in there and as long as it's misbehaving so will your locking system.
When the flap problems first arose and the cars involved were still under warranty, Jaguar's directive to the Dealers was to replace the complete ignition switch assembly - no messing about with lubrication etc!

As Astromorg suggests, resolve ignition flap oddity first to see if your security issues disappear as that is a known oddity.

Door lock mech switches are an issue reported by some members causing various locking issues.

Flap is all good, but still same issue, this does not explain why in spring summer warmer weather it works 100% but winter time its intermittent or stops working all together, something is getting damp but what ?

is there a module somewhere where it can get wet ? fuse boxes look ok and dry.

thanks.

foleyaxle, most likely what you are seeing is your lock switch or latch has some drag to it. So, it doesn't like to move in the first place. When it is warm, the grease that they put on this stuff is not as thick, so, things move a little easier. But, as the temp drops, this grease starts getting harder and harder, until one of your switches/latches does not move completely. Then you see this problem. This is where spraying some WD-40 on the latches and switches helps to free things up as you are washing away some of that grease and replacing it with a much thinner oil.

Great advice.

So i took out the driver side actuator, cleaned it all up sprayed it, greased it.

i then did the passenger side.

after refitting at first it did not work same issue, then i pulled the handle out and in a few times, shut the door and the central locking worked a few times, i then left it to try later and after 1 unlock and lock its stopped again, now its back to the start ????

thanks.

foleyaxle, instead of just blindly going after the doors, hopefully you don't have dark tint on your windows, but lock the car and see which lock has not rolled all the way. That is your problem child. It could be that your door lock actuator is getting weak and it does not always (un)lock the door. Repeat for locking. If all the doors look good, then it is most likely your trunk. Didn't see where you mentioned that one.
