So yesterday this fault popped up. When I went to turn off the ignition at home, I got the "chime" that I thought was the stuck ignition flap. Nope! It's the chime warning the Headlights are on. Switch is off and if I roll ignition to on (not started or started) the lights extinguish. Turn ignition to off and the lights (outside lights and dash lights come on) and if I open the door, the chime sounds. Pulled and checked all the fuses and relays under hood and they are all fine. I finally just had to disconnect the battery as it's cold and raining here.
Anyone have some guidance or experience with this? I also cleared the gearbox fault, but when I turn ignition on a few times or start the car it pops back up. Also with ignition off, the "P" on the gear shifter is illuminated with key off and out of ignition slot as well as the front lights.
Hi Dell - sorry to read about your probs.
Is it possible that your question above contains already the answer? ...--> "... it's cold and raining here."
I found this: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-p1797-202972/
...-> P1797 is a CAN circuit failure between the ECM and TCM
...-> Now I realized the period when I experienced intermittent P1797 faults was several days in-a-row of extremely heavy rain, and the transmission signal harness/connector may have moisture contamination due to weak/failed gasket/O-ring(s).
PS: Our cat don't like rain!

Reason: Added PS note
Idk about that connector, the car sits under a carport. Now thinking back, I also had a car wash (with undercarriage) 2 days before and didn't drive it until Saturday when this occurred. Certainly NOT looking forward to trying to get under the car in this cold crappy weather. My cancer has just knocked the snot out of me the last few months. I'm weak as a "kitten", lol. I'll try to live with disconnecting the battery for the immediate future and update later when I can feel a bit better and try getting under the car.

Hi Dell,
I knew about your cancer - your wrote me about that a long time go and every time I see a comment from you somewhere, I am hoping the best for you...
About the Jag: I am quite trigger-happy with my water-pressure cleaner myself, BUT I sure learned that the engine of a Jag is mainly out of bounds for any pressure cleaner.
I very rarely aim a pressure cleaner at the engine, and if I have to, I determine in exact detail, where I can shoot at, and where not...
...and when we recently had the S-Type at a paint-specialist for a paint-job, and saw that they seem to be cleaning customer's engines with a pressure cleaner, I taped a note into the engine bay asking them NOT to clean it - just do make sure, they aren't going to kill the cat...
Dell, from this other thread a few days ago maybe a remote battery disconnect would do the trick for you. Looks like a simple install and saves you from opening and closing the hood and carrying around a 10mm wrench everywhere you go. That might get you by for a few weeks until the weather is more cooperative to do the job for real.
This one on Amazon is only $30 and is the specific one mentioned by another forum member.
@dh53 thank you for the link. I was thinking of the same thing and your link was more economical than those I had looked at. Forum comes through once again!
Maybe get an extra battery for the remote depending on how high you are up in the mountains. I understand snow season can go pretty late into the year in Utah.
SMFH!!!
Received the remote control battery cut off unit today. I went out to install it. Thought, "I wonder if the problems still persists" before hooking it up. And wouldn't you know it, hooked up the battery cable and NO FREAKING FRONT LIGHTS ON! No, fault ,(drivetrain) when starting. Shut off and started several times and nothing, no problems. Kitty fixed itself...
We all must expect some hairballs at times, but this sure boggles my mind.
