Picked up X-Type--Which Maintenance?
I finally picked up my 2005 X-Type 3.0 (auto) with 90,000 miles.
I'm thinking my first order of business should be some maintenance on the car. Here's what I was thinking of starting with:

- TC fluid
- Spark plugs
- Air filter
- Fuel filter
- Transmission fluid
- Clean MAF
- Grease propshaft center support bearing

Don`t forget the rear diff
check your break pads n rotors (ebay has great kits for this slotted rotors and ceramic pads)
Also check out all the suspension bushings and ball joints while your safely under the car I found rockauto.com has good prices.
and an engine oil and filter (I use Mobil 1 but there is a lot of opinions here on whats best)change but i recon you just forgot to put that on the list
also check belts & hoses A coolant flush may be a good idea and I just did my power steering and break fluid (100K on my 06)

While you are doing the spark plugs I'd take a good look at the intake manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets as they tend to start leaking pretty good once you start to get as many years/miles as you've got and they can be easily changed while you have the intake off to change the spark plugs.

Brake pads and rotors are all new (as of May) the selling dealer replaced pads+rotors F&R.
Stabilizer links and bushings were changed before sale as well, though I plan to check all other bushings. There's a squeak that developed on my drive home, from the rear of the vehicle when suspension compresses. Ill check all bushings to see if any need replacing.
Engine oil/filter were changed before the sale as well.
Brake fluid is a great addition to the list. I've no clue how long this current fluid has been in there.

rjs, a little tip, you can get the intake gaskets for a Lincoln LS 3.0L engine (same year as your car) and they fit right in to the car. The blocks are very similar between the two cars and that will save you some money as the Felpro gaskets are like $25 for a set of 6, where Jaguar wants like $12 a gasket (or $72). If you ask your local mechanic about replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets, he will know what you are talking about. The parts places call them something goofey like "intake gaskets" and "lower plenum gaskets". Something like that.

All good advice, hope to hear you get it done for a reasonable price and all is well.
Moving forward at 90k miles / 9 years old bear in mind to check the battery....
Is it the original?
Has it been changed and how old is it, does it hold a good charge?
These cars are sensitive to battery power and can cause all sorts of weird glitches / issues......just something to bear in mind.

If you do end up doing the spark sparks, then you should for sure do the Throttle Body Intake gasket since that will be exposed anyway...
...plus the the Intake Mixer Tuning (IMT) valve gaskets since those frequently go bad, and they're easy to do with the intake manifold off (for the spark plug change).

car5car, the stroke/bore may be the same over the years, but the blocks have slight variances between the different models that they were put into. For example, in the Ford Fusion, the water pump is on the front of the engine. Yet, in our Jags, the water pump is on the back side of the engine. The Fusion does not have the IMT valves where the Lincoln and the Jag do. So, you are correct on some parts of the car, but it is not a 100% garantee though either.
