Twice I have seen and removed pieces of black foam rubber from my
center HVAC vents. Where would this be coming from? I saw another
piece poking into the louvers of the vents this morning. Obviously it
is coming from somewhereinside the HVAC duct but from where???

Any ideas???

 

Ya, they use the foam to seal around the vents, unfortunately what happens over time they rot and it comes out through the vents

Its not a seal to external air is it?

 

seals duct to duct, you can pull the dash if so inclined, replace with self sticking weather stripping from a BIg Box store, and reassemble, but I HOPE youre not that retentive, especially since when stamping the metal dash frame it like razor blades and I have yet to get out with a cut

Was just concerned that it may be like a seal to outside
air that may afect the temp of the air coming out of the
vents.
