Default Possible Transmission problem

My car jerks at 35-40mph. What could cause this to happen aside from a bad transmission? If anyone has any knowledge on the matter, your input and effort would be greatly appreciated!

Water in the fuel filter.

Every time a drop hits the combustion chamber, you get a "jerk".

Change out the filter, $5 fix.

Put a couple bottles of WalMart $1.97 gas dryer in a 1/4 tank of gas to suck up remaining water from bottom of tank, and quit running an ethanol blend for fuel!

(or pour a full can of SeaFoam fuel additive in right now, if you don't have time or inclination to change the filter out right away. It should fix the problem pronto, for about $10 USD)
