Programming a New Key - Help Needed
Hi all,
My 2006 X-Type came with one key only so I think its wise to have another spare on the side and ready for use.
There are dozens of new keys FOB which are obviously uncut and unprogrammed. I am assuming that you need to have the blade cut to match the working key at any key cutter am I right? Having the blade cut, then one would need to program the key to the vehicle. To assist, I found the link below:
How to Program Keys to Jaguar X Type: 6 Steps (with Pictures)
The process seems a bit too simple and before trying I wanted to check if any of you can confirm this process actually works or if you have any suggestions etc?
thanks!!

You also need the immobiliser chip that goes into the key part of the fob.
It is that that needs programming as well, unfortunately unless you have 2 working keys this has to be done either by Jaguar at considerable cost or some locksmiths can clone your original.
The instructions you have a link for are just to reprogram the fob for locking and unlocking etc

The same blade is used by quite a few European Fords.
Check with your key cutter to see if they can cut one.
From what I read .... ANY Tibbe key will LOCK any car so do not leave your keys in your car.
If you lock your car, unlock just the boot. slam the boot lid with your keys inside then........
I have yet to find an answer, on any forum for a non USA version of the X Type.
Maybe a main dealer has an answer ?
I think its wise to have another spare on the side and ready for use.

I ordered blanks (with transponder chips) on e-bay $12.50 each, had my dealer service dept cut the keys (free) and then found the only locksmith in my town aside from the dealer that could program them for only $45 vise the $180 my dealer service dept wanted to charge. Had I gotten them from Jaguar it would have cost $580 for each key with keyless entry, or $300 for each key without keyless entry, and another $180 for programming and that's highway robbery.
A few of the better locksmiths in my town told me they might be able to cut new key blanks and clone the chip in some replacement keys if they were the programmable kind so that they would transmit the exact same code as the one key I had left but only one locksmith (out of about a dozen) actually had the right equipment do do the job.

How would you find a locksmith who can clone it? And where would you get the blank key cut? Thanks
IIRC there are 52+ Kingstons in the world but only one Twickenham, 18 Londons in the USA and another 10 elsewhere ( including my local UK one.
It does help folk giving advice appropriate to where you live.
