Default Pronounced shifting normal ?

Hello,

I was hoping to get input of other automatic owners on how this car shifts. My car seems to be very, let's say unsophisticated, it's not slipping but it has a very pronounced shift point from first to second and third. My mothers 97 Altima shifts seamless compared to my X type.

As a new owner, obviously, I am overly sensitive to the tranny since I know that they do have a high failure rate. I already flushed my fluid out and have seen no noticeable improvement. Putting her on Sports mode or filling up the gas tank seem to help, although it might just be a coincidence. It seems like the tranny will be as smooth as butter on some trips and a little more pronounced shifting on other trips. If I just know how this car is supposed to drive I will probably be able to get on with driving and stop being so paranoid

I already know to look at the TCM, but is there any cable adjustment or vacuum lines I should be looking at?

The automatic transmission in my X-Type shifts smoothly at the appropriate time, like any other modern car.

Thanks for your reply.

I think my biggest problem is going thru very slow places like inside the parking garage or thru neighborhoods where you don't really go above 20 and are constantly slowing down for stop signs and road bumps. It seems that the shif point from 1st to 2nd is terribly late compared to other cars I have driven of the same age

I would say that I experience the same problem if I leave sport mode on in a high traffic environment, such as rush hour on the way home.

The more aggressive shift points can be annoying when you're going slow and constantly stopping/going. That being said, my 2013 GLK350 rental did the same thing so the solution in either case was for me to go back to normal mode.

If your car is doing that even in normal mode, it would seem that something is not right. Maybe it's stuck in sport mode or something?

I am pretty sure I have an mild electronic issue manifesting itself. The car goes back and forth between more aggressive shifting to smoother shifting (sports of). The battery came of last Thursday so I don't think the car is still "learning". One moment I feather the accelerator and the car just smoothly goes and then other times i do the same thing and the Rpm's have to get up higher in order for her to shift. My experience with Jaguars tells me a TPS or some such other sensor is starting to fail, but not completely.

I was already advised to look at the TCM on another thread. Any other suggestions ?

Thanks a lot

How so very odd . The car shifts perfectly smooth at night. Seamless shifting. This has to be a sensor

I cleaned my MAF today to see if that would help wit the shifting, I also ran a rag thru the throttle body and it did not seem terribly dirty and the butterfly seemed to open and close fine. BTW, this seems like an average TB except for the fact they have conveniently stuck the TPS to it. Is that why so many TB's have been replaced on X types?...because the TPS fails and you got to replace the whole thing? What a terrible design, for those of us that buy these cars out of warranty.

So why would my tranny go back and forth between silky shifting and more "aggressive" shifting? Sign of TPS starting to go?

My TCM seems completely free of water ingress

Thanks!!
