prospective purchase, problem
Looking at an x type 2002, has abs light on and steer wheel judder at 100 kmh, should I walk away or are fixes straight forward? ps.s goes very well good power
mickvic, the front end wobble could be as simple as a wheel alignment or a bad wheel bearing or worn suspension. Based on what you say about the wobble at 100 KM/HR, that is a characteristic of an alignment issue. So, that would be cheap.
As for the speed sensor, this is where things get questionable. Could be a simple wheel bearing in the front ($300 USD and it is repaired by a shop). Could be a sensor ($20 USD and an hour of your time). Could be the reluctance ring on the rear half shaft ($400 USD if repaired by a shop). Then there are the issues that some battle that it just won't go away. I would say to buy and check it out. Based on the wobble issue, it may be something fairly simple. BUt, plan on putting say another $500 USD into the car to fix the 2 issues and factor that into the price you pay.
