Isn`t there a sticky or FAQ on 0171 and 0174 yet

Search the X-Type forum on the site for vacuum leaks, IMT o-ring, PCV hose, and you'll come across the likely three culprits. All easy fixes.

Let me guess. Just started as the weather got colder?

Might just be one problem if all 3 codes were logged at the same time.Sometimes a leak in a pipe or seal can cause other sensors further downstream to log faults.Check the thread on how to remove and refit the cranckcase breather hose which is a common failure and hence the newer sturdier pipe for a £5 in under 2 mins

The Weather gets cold...and I get the System Too Lean and 02 sensor codes. It warmed up today and my engine light went off.

I'm in for an oil change this week...should I have them check the codes anyway?

Happens more in the cold. Check for one or all three vacuum leaks.

Looks like i got it fixed. At least the engine light is out and the car seems to be running much better (no rough idle at start up).

The hose going from the PCV to the intake manifold / it runs right along side the throtle body, was split right down the middle. I tried to fix it once before by sealing it with electric tape and it worked at the time because the split was very small. I guess the hose was really a piece of crap because the split was almost the entire length of the hose now.

Anywayz.... $1.59 for a piece of new hose and all is well.

Lets hope the codes dont come back.

Thats the same pipe as mentioned above (PCV hose to the intake manifold = crankcase breather pipe)...oil lies in the bottom of the pipe causing it to deteriorate.
Glad its sorted
