Hi all,

I need to pick someone’s brains here… I have a Jaguar 2.1 Petrol manual. When she is cold everything is fine, however, we she has been running and warmed up I can hear what sounds to be a pulley or tensioner grinding noise. Do Jaguar x Types have any known tensioner problems?

No belts are slipping and the clutch seems ok too, it only happens when I move away from stationery at around 1000 -1200 rpms

Both the serpentine and water pump tensioners and the idler pulley bearings were worn out on my 02 X type and made tons of noise.

Worst one was the small water pump tensioner it was really bad.

Simple to diagnose, remove belt and give them a spin, the ones that aren't quiet and have a little resistance to them are worn out.

Good news is that they are pretty cheap and easy to swap out, it cost me less than $150 for all of them and had them changed out in about 2 hours.
